What is Via?
Via is an online software program that you will use throughout your study abroad experience. When you begin an application, you will create an account in Via. You will need this account throughout your entire study abroad experience (including once you’ve returned). You may also hear this referred to as your study abroad portal.

What is Via used for?
- To apply to a study abroad program
- To apply for GEO grants
- To complete required forms
- To communicate with the GEO team (in addition to emails)
- To register for study abroad events
- To receive SafeCheck messages from the GEO team
- To report travel itineraries
How can I see messages I've received through Via?
There are two ways you can view Via messages.
- Log into your Via account and click on "Messages".
- Check your email. A copy of each Via message will be sent to your email. The sender will simply be listed as "messages", but the subject line will be specific to SMC study abroad information.
Can I send messages to the GEO team through Via?
Yes! Click on "Messages". Under your profile, you will see two boxes where you can enter the subject line and your message.
