I find that my philosophy of teaching and teaching style are continuously evolving in a dynamic relationship with the changing needs of the students and the healthcare industry—the two most important stakeholders for faculty of any School of Nursing. Primarily, I believe that the role of faculty is to create an active learning environment that promotes engagement, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. These skills are imperative for newly graduated BSN students as they prepare for the RN licensure examination and for practice in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. It is also important to incorporate strategies that include a variety of learning styles to provide the best opportunity for all students to meet expected course learning outcomes.
