BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team posted a 304 to win their fifth-consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) round of play on day one of the conference's season-ending two-day finale event.
The Belles' 304 was 32 strokes ahead of second place finisher Albion's 336. Calvin took third place with a 342 to edge Hope by one stroke (343).
Lauren Read was the round medalist as the junior fired a two-over par 74. Read had a round-best 15 pars while also sinking a birdie on the par four hole No. 1. Summer Stillson was a stroke behind for second place with a 75. Stillson shared round-best honors with three birdies while carding nine pars. Taylor Kehoe took third place overall with a 77 with 12 pars on the day. Hunter Kehoe wrapped up the win with a 78 to tie for fourth place while also posting 12 pars.
Sydney Hruskoci was the fifth Belle in the lineup and shot an 80 to place eighth. Maggie Sexton and Hannah Finley both competed as individuals. Sexton shot an 85 to tie for 17th place, and Finley carded an 89 to take 33rd place individually.
The Belles hold a 137-stroke lead over the field going into the final round of MIAA play. The final 18-holes of the season begin at 9:00 a.m. at Bedford Valley Golf Club.
