Belles Take Ninth at Bethel Invitational

• Katie Glenn ran a personal record time of 19:44.8 to lead the Belles.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team placed ninth in a field of several nationally-ranked NAIA programs as the lone NCAA Division III member at the Bethel Invitational on Friday.

NAIA No. 2 ranked Taylor won the event with a score of 29. No. 6 Aquinas was second with 59 points, and No. 5 Madonna was third with 72 points. Each of the top five teams are currently ranked in the top 25 nationally by the NAIA while sixth and seventh place Bethel and Trinity Christian are receiving votes in the top 25 poll. The Belles had a team score of 268 to edge out St. Xavier by 19 points.

Katie Glenn led the Belles with a 5k personal record time of 19:44.8 to improve upon her previous PR by nearly 30 seconds as she earned 40 points toward the team total. Adele Edmonds posted a 20:01.5 for her best 5k time of her senior season while attributing 47 points to the team score. Sarah Allen turned in a personal record of her own with a 20:22.6 for 57 points while improving on her PR time from 2016 by 42 seconds.

Riley Swope broke below the 21-minute threshold with a 20:54.3 for her best 5k to-date as the freshman added 59 points to the team score. Gabby Russell wrapped up the team finish with a 21:08.9 to improve her season-best 5k time by 32 seconds as the freshman picked up 65 points. Brigid Conmy was just three seconds behind Russell with a 21:11.8 for an 11-second improvement upon her previous-best time this year. Emily Blank continued the trend of posting season-best 5k times as the ran a 21:25.8 to shave 25 seconds off of her previous-best 5k time of the year.

Shanan Hamilton placed 123rd overall with a time of 21:55.8 at the race. Claudia Stiglitz crossed the finish with a 22:10.1 for 129th. Emily Harrast placed 140th as she broke below the 22:50 time threshold for the first time this season with a 22:45.7. Maura Honan was edged out by 0.4 of a second by a runner from IU Northwest as she finished 167th with a 24:02.5. Michaela Barry turned in a 24:53.3 for her best 5k of the year to-date as she placed 179th.

The Belles travel to Ohio next weekend for the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, October 13 starting at 10:30 a.m.
