GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team placed 23rd at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday morning.
NAIA member and No. 9 ranked Madonna won the team title with a score of 63. Fellow NAIA member No. 4 ranked Aquinas was second with a 96. NCAA Division II member Saginaw Valley was third (130) while host Calvin was fourth (149). Saint Mary's finished the event with a team score of 603.
Adele Edmonds was the first Saint Mary's runner to cross the finish line at the event. The senior ran a 20:17.2 5k to pace the team while finishing 113th overall for 85 points. Brigid Conmy and Riley Swope finished within a second of one another with Conmy (21:22.8) edging out Swope (21:23.3) as the duo finished 180th (123 points) and 181st (124 points), respectively.
Gabby Russell and Shanan Hamilton were not far behind as the pair wrapped up the team score. Russell turned in a time of 21:40.1 to place 201st and earn 135 points. Hamilton crossed the line in 21:42.1 and was 203rd overall while contributing 136 points to the team score.
Emily Blank and Sarah Allen completed the race within a few seconds of one another. Blank posted a 21:50.1 and was 205th overall. Allen, meanwhile, ran a 21:58.1 and was 210th. Maura Honan was 256th with a time of 23:33.7. Emily Harrast turned in a 23:45.4 for 259th, and Michaela Barry wrapped up the Saint Mary's efforts with a 25:59.1 to place 273rd.
The Belles return to competition on Friday, September 14 when they take part in the University of Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational, which begins at 3:30 p.m.
