Belles Finish Tenth at O'Brien National Invitational
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished tenth at the O'Brien National Invitational, which the team has hosted for the past six years.
Wittenberg won the two-day tournament with a 327 today to finish with a 634 for the tournament. George Fox moved past Washington University in St. Louis for second place with a 315 on Monday to turn in a two-day total of 641. Connie Zhou from Washington University in St. Louis won the individual medalist title by a stroke with a 79 on Monday for a tournament-best 152.
Courtney Carlson had the largest
improvement in score from
yesterday to today for the Belles.The Belles shot a 348 on Monday for a two-day score of 722. Janice Heffernan led the way yet again with an 85 to finish the tournament with a 172 and a share of 37th place. Ali Mahoney also improved her score from yesterday by two strokes today and turned in an 86 for a final score of 174 (t-43rd).
Katie Zielinski shaved eight strokes off yesterday's round for an 88 to finish tied for 56th with a 184. Courtney Carlson had the largest improvement upon yesterday's score for the Belles as the sophomore cut 20 strokes off her total for an 89 and 63rd place with a 198. Lydia Lorenc was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer on the day and shot a 100 for a two-day score of 203 and 64th place overall.
Kelsey Conkright, Rachel Kim, and Kaitlyn Cartone all competed as individuals for the Belles. Conkright shot a 96 on Monday for a 194 (62nd) while Kim and Cartone each turned in scores of 98 for two-day totals of 190 (60th) and 192 (61st), respectively.
The Belles are next in action on Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21, when they participate in the DePauw Small College Classic.
