When will I receive my first Billing Statement each semester?
The Student Accounts Office begins generating bills each semester as follows:
Fall: mid-July
Spring: mid-December
Summer: early-May
When is payment due each semester?
Fall payment deadline: August 1
Spring payment deadline: January 1
Summer payment deadline: June 1
How can I pay my bill?
There are several ways to pay your bill at Saint Mary's College:
What is the general fee charge on mystudent bill?
The general fee is a mandatory fee that includes technology, student government, and facility fees shared by all students each term.
Are there additional fees for paying with a credit/debit card online?
Yes. There is a service charge each time a payment uses a credit or debit card of 2.95%.
May I pay with a credit/debit card over the phone?
No. We no longer accept any payments over the phone.
What if I cannot pay the entire balance in full?
We strongly encourage you to visit the payment information page and follow the directions to sign up for a payment plan.
If this option does not work for you, please give us a call at 574-284-4730, email us at studentaccounts@saintmarys.edu, or make an appointment to talk with our manager.
When are bills due?
Fall 2023 Payment Due Date: August 1
Spring 2024 Payment Due Date: January 1
Summer 2024 Payment Due Date: June 1
When a billing statement becomes available, students will receive an email notice at their my.saintmarys.edu email address. To view statements, the student should log into their TouchNet account and select the icons for 'Review Statements History' and/or 'Review Account Activity.'
Student account balances must be paid in full by the due date. Students with account balances remaining after the due date will be administratively enrolled in the College’s payment plan and will incur a late fee.
Your student's TouchNet account will factor in your expected aid, so you are able to enroll in a payment plan for the difference.
Does Saint Mary’s offer tuition insurance?
Yes. It’s important to us that you have access to affordable protection for the major investment you’ve made in higher education. We have partnered with GradGuard™ to offer the Tuition Protection Plan. This optional coverage expands the scope of our refund policy by ensuring reimbursement for tuition, room and board and other fees for unexpected, covered withdrawals at any time during the semester. The student must enroll prior to the first day of class. Learn more about the Tuition Protection Plan at GradGuard.com/tuition/saintmarys or call 877-794-6603.
I am a parent, therefore, may I call and talk to the Student Accounts office about my student’s bill?
If you were granted permission to be an Authorized User, then we are able to verify and discuss specific details on your student’s account.
We strongly encourage students to add parents/guardians as an Authorized User. Authorized Users will receive billing statements, can make payments on student accounts, as well as speak to a Student Accounts representative.
Please keep in mind, a Student Accounts Representative will not be able to speak with anyone calling on a student's behalf unless they are listed as an Authorized User.
For further information on how to set up an Authorized User, please visit the 'Authorized Users' section of this webpage.
How do I know if I am eligible for a refund?
When looking at your student account balance, you may notice a negative amount. This indicates you have a credit on your account, which may be eligible for a refund.
Keep in mind, if you let the credit stay on your account, the credit will automatically pay forward to any next semester's charges.
In order to obtain a refund, students must fill out the form here
When will I get my refund? What is the fastest way to get my refund?
Direct deposit is the fastest/most secure way to receive a refund. These refunds are usually processed weekly. The first refunds processed at the beginning of each semester do not begin until about 10 days after the first day of classes.
In order to obtain a refund, a student must fill out the form here
IMPORTANT! Students are requested to make sure that their TouchNet account is set up for direct deposit.
When a refund is processed, the student will receive an email confirming that a refund has been processed. Please allow 24 - 48 hours for the money to show as deposited in the personal bank account.
Do I have to pay taxes for the scholarships and grants I have received?
If your scholarships and grants (federal, state, Saint Mary’s, etc.) exceed the cost of tuition, fees, and books for the calendar year, the excess may be taxable income. The 1098 T Tuition Statement tax form, needed for your taxes, is available from Saint Mary’s and will include your cost information. Student loans are not considered taxable income. The federal 1098-T tax form will be published via TouchNet to each student's account by January 31 each year.
While Saint Mary's College does not endorse or recommend third parties such as Turbo Tax, they do have a great explanation on the 1098 T Tuition Statement tax form you can find here.
