Kelly Earns MIAA Defensive Player of the Week Accolade

FREELAND, Mich. - Saint Mary's lacrosse midfielder Kate Kelly was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for games through March 20.

Kelly, a freshman from Orland Park, Ill., took defensive honors after leading Saint Mary’s in ground balls and draw controls in a pair of road contests last week. She totaled 13 ground balls, won 11 draw controls, and caused five turnovers to help hold opponents to 12 goals total. Kelly was also active on the offensive end scoring seven points on six goals and an assist.

It is the first MIAA Player of the Week award for Kelly. She becomes the fourth different Belle to earn the conference's weekly award since 2014.
